Maintenance

How do you check if a defibrillator is working?

Most modern defibrillators perform automatic self-checks to ensure they're ready for use. You can usually tell if it's working by looking at the status indicator - a green light or tick means it's operational, while a red light or cross means attention is needed. It's also important to check that the pads and battery are in date, the device is clean, and the unit is stored correctly for easy access.
Maintenance

How often should a defibrillator be serviced?

A defibrillator should be checked regularly to ensure the device is good condition ready to be used in an emergency. This includes checking the pads and batteries are in date, and the status indicator shows it's ready for use. With our comprehensive workplace solution, we provide a portal to keep track of equipment, and we will send you replacements at the relevant times.
Maintenance

How long do defibrillators last before replacement?

Most defibrillators last around 8 to 10 years before they need replacing, depending on the model and usage. However, the pads and batteries have much shorter lifespans - typically 5 years - and must be replaced when they expire or after each use.
Maintenance

Who is responsible for maintaining a workplace defibrillator?

The business or organisation that owns the defibrillator is responsible for keeping it in good working order. However, Defib provides comprehensive defibrillator solutions so your business doesn't need to do anything. Please see our workplace defibrillator solution page for more information.
