Are workplaces required to have a defibrillator by law in the UK?
UK law doesn't currently require workplaces to have a defibrillator. However, employers are highly encouraged to include one as part of their first aid and health & safety provision, especially in larger workplaces or where medical help may take time to arrive. Having an AED on site can greatly improve survival chances in an emergency.

The business or organisation that owns the defibrillator is responsible for keeping it in good working order. However, as Defib provides a comprehensive defibrillator solution, your business doesn't need to do anything.

How many defibrillators does a workplace need?
The number of defibrillators a workplace needs depends on the size, layout, and number of employees. As a guide, the defibrillator should be able to be reached quickly, ideally within two or three minutes of any incident. Therefore large sites or those spread across multiple buildings may need more than one defibrillator.

If the defibrillator can be reached by all businesses within a couple of minutes, then sharing a defibrillator could be considered. Also bear in mind that a response time to use the defibrillator on a patient must include the return journey too.
